Google Meet is the most accessible video chat platform

I’m Deaf/hard of hearing and Google Meet is significantly more useable.

1. Person-by-person captions is better than a wall of everyone’s garbled text

Google Meet
You: I like that a lot
James: I’m surprised
You: more than the other one.

Others
I like that a lot I’m surprised more than the other one

2. Prediction engine for Meet is better or at least more familiar

Either the AI is better because of the enormous head start from years of training on YouTube autocaptions and other Google products like Live Transcribe, or the quirks of Google’s transcriptions are more familiar and easier to navigate.

3. Fancy platform features often don’t have subtitles

Zoom break-out rooms don’t have subtitles, and going to them, then coming back from break rooms can turn off subtitles that have been enabled in the main channel, and I don’t have to teach anyone that if we are in Google Meet on the spot. Other platforms have similar quirks.
